Abuse survivors learning to Thrive

www.isurvive.org is one of the many support forums that are on the Internet, so why is this one so different. There appears to be a very personal touch that emulates from the owner of the site. She is always willing to step in and post support to the members when they need it. She goes that extra mile to make sure that everybody doesn't feel isolated. She offers and email address and a Toll free number for anybody to use if they are in need of hearing a friendly voice, or need extra help in finding resources. When you look through the posts from over 800 members, the sincerity and care just oozes out of the pages.

isurvive is clearly a very valuable resource for people who have endured abuse as a child. the name isurvive is a poignant message for all its members as it gives a clear affirmation that they will indeed recover and survive from the traumas they have endured.

isurvive is very clearly a life saver for many people who pass through its doors and a valuable resource for people who have suffered abuse. They also offer a resources section, which is updated frequently and the owner holds a very extensive book list of resources that can be emailed upon request.

This blog post is part of Zemanta's "Blogging For a Cause" campaign to raise awareness and funds for worthy causes that bloggers care about.

Jade Goody

Having just finished reading Jade Goodys book "Forever in my hearts", I thought l would start writing about this and keep entries of all the books l read over the coming year. Some of the reasons behind that idea is because I visit my local library every three weeks, and I am getting to the point of losing track of what I have read.

Going back to this book and my thoughts. As we all know Jade sadly lost the fight against cancer and died on Mothering Sunday of this year. She left behind two little boys.

The media were constantly on her from the time she came out of Big Brother in 2002. She was a very controversial individual. It was true what many said, you either loved her or hated her. I think I probably went through both emotions where she was involved. She did quite well for herself using the media to make a better life for herself. This all came crashing down on her when she re entered Big Brother as a celebrity and there was a massive row between her an another house member. This caused huge waves of disgust towards Jade as she was accused of being racist. I think this almost destroyed her.

After much hard work and soul searching, she began to rebuild herself back up. She had agreed to enter another big brother show held in India. Some of this l believe was for her to show that she was not a racist and accepted everybody for who they were, just as she really wanted people to do the same for her.

Whilst in the house she received the shocking news that she had cancer and had to return to the UK immediately to start treatment. There her battle began.

This book is all her diary entries as she goes through the horrendous journey of radiotherapy and intense chemo therapy. She talks very openly in the book of her full range of up and down times. She talks about her struggle with how she is going to tell her two little boys that mummy is going to heaven. She is very open about how she is now using the media to get as much money as she possibly can for her children's future. She knows she wont be there, but at least she can provide for them in monetary terms.

I have to say this was one of the most gut wrenching books l have read in a long time. Not only did l find myself feeling as though l was actually there with Jade in the room, but I could feel the raw emotion of love that she has for her children and how she was desperate her children never had to struggle like she did as a child. I found myself often moved to tears while reading each diary entry.

Jade moved this country into action, especially the women, as many people were now going for smear tests after hearing what she was going through. I do believe that through Jade many lives have been saved from going through what she has had to deal with.

My conclusion is that this book is a compelling read and l know l will go and look for her earlier book about her life as a child, as that too was traumatic as she looked after her mother who was a crack addict at the time. This current book shows a side of Jade l don't think many of the general public really saw, she was a loving and caring person, who loved her children to pieces. She would do anything for her children and that did include putting herself under the media attention constantly just to ensure that the quality of their lives financially didn't change once she died.
